LG OLED G5

The G5 was the TV that redefined OLED brightness in 2025: as the first device with a primary RGB tandem panel, it achieved 2268 Nits and was named test winner by hifi.de and Netzwelt – not least because of its price, which undercut the more expensive competition from Samsung and Sony. Additionally, it features four full HDMI 2.1 ports with 165 Hz, webOS 25, and the second-generation Alpha 11 processor. The MSRP for the 65-inch model was 4000 euros.

Classification and Target Audience

The G5 targets the same audience as its successor, the G6: bright rooms, wall mounting, uncompromising HDR. One year after its market launch, it is primarily one thing – an offer. Street prices have fallen significantly below the MSRP, while the panel technically remains among the top group.

Picture and Panel

2268 Nits mean about double what the concurrently released C5 provides (1165 Nits) and almost triple that of the B5. The primary RGB tandem panel operates with four layers and generates brightness without a white supplementary layer that can wash out colors. Compared to the G6, it lacks about 700 Nits – visibly different in direct comparison, but rarely critical in everyday use.

Gaming and Connections

  • 4 out of 4 HDMI ports with full 2.1 bandwidth
  • 4K with 165 Hz
  • VRR with FreeSync Premium and G-Sync
  • ALLM

This makes the G5 well-equipped for console and PC gamers, just like the 2026 generation – an argument that weighs heavily with the fallen price.

Sound and Operating System

The 4.2 system with 60 watts is equivalent to that of the G6 and is sufficient for news and series, but not for movie nights. webOS 25 continues to receive updates and differs little in operation from webOS 26.

What’s Missing

As with all LG TVs, HDR10+ is absent. Additionally, the gallery design requires wall mounting – a stand may not be included depending on the variant. Those who wish to place the TV on a sideboard will need to purchase it separately.

Conclusion and Price-Performance Ratio

4000 euros MSRP, now widely below that in retail (as of August 2026). This results in an unusual constellation: the newer G6 starts at 3499 euros, cheaper than the G5's MSRP, and is brighter and more modern – however, anyone who finds a discontinued model at a clearance price will get one of the best price-performance ratios in the OLED segment. Before purchasing, it is worth checking the current street price of both devices.
