For orientation, not for clearance

The map shows the official zones exactly as German air traffic control publishes them. It deliberately does not tell you whether a given flight is permitted: that depends on weight, drone class and operating category, plus same-day restrictions. Which obligations apply to you is covered in the guide to German drone rules. Only dipul.de and the NOTAMs shortly before take-off are binding.

How to read the map

Coloured areas are not blanket flight bans. They mark areas where additional conditions apply: sometimes the operator's consent, sometimes clearance from air traffic control, sometimes a minimum altitude or a distance. Which condition applies is stated for each area on dipul.de.

Air traffic is the hard limit

Around airports and inside control zones nothing works without clearance from air traffic control. These areas are large and often reach further into the surrounding countryside than people expect. Anyone taking off near a major city is quickly inside one.

Temporary closures change daily

State visits, major events or police operations create short-notice restrictions. That is exactly why this map fetches the data fresh on every visit. Checking the night before still does not replace checking on the day of the flight.

Residential property affects almost every take-off

Above residential property, distances and consent requirements apply as soon as the drone carries a camera. This is where most hobby flights run into trouble in practice, not at the airport on the edge of town.

Nature conservation is state law

Nature reserves, national parks and bird sanctuaries are recorded nationwide, but the actual prohibitions sit in state law and in the regulations of each protected area. Several states ban taking off inside a protected area entirely.

Where the data comes from

The zones come from the map service of the Digital Platform for Unmanned Aviation, which German air traffic control runs on behalf of the federal transport ministry. It is the same source that feeds the official application on dipul.de. The base map is basemap.de from the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy.

We cache none of it and change nothing about the geometries. There are two reasons: the data would eventually go stale, and the licence from air traffic control only permits redistribution in unmodified form.
